{"id":7569,"date":"2023-08-16T16:34:51","date_gmt":"2023-08-16T23:34:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/caitlinhicks.com\/wordpress\/?p=7569"},"modified":"2023-08-16T16:46:35","modified_gmt":"2023-08-16T23:46:35","slug":"the-fiction-of-kennedy-girl-your-own-life-is-within-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/caitlinhicks.com\/wordpress\/the-fiction-of-kennedy-girl-your-own-life-is-within-it\/","title":{"rendered":"The fiction of KENNEDY GIRL: &#8220;Your own life is within it&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 dir=\"ltr\"><\/h3>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\">A conversation with a friend<\/h3>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\">after reading KENNEDY GIRL<\/h3>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Finished &#8220;Kennedy Girl&#8221; this morning plus the discussion topics which followed.\u00a0 \u00a0Much to say: writing was excellent, kept my attention throughout.\u00a0 You have a gift for vivid imagery,\u00a0 especially in portraying feelings.\u00a0 I was going to say, &#8220;I felt like I knew Annie&#8221; but then in a way I do know her.\u00a0 No, you write fiction but your own life is within it, and naturally so.\u00a0 You bring back an era I knew well, and bring it back with vibrancy and power.\u00a0 You bring your characters to life for sure.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\" data-setdir=\"false\">\n<p>What is both fascinating, and disturbing, is that we are still wrestling with the issues of that 1960&#8217;s era&#8211;in fact, the present widespread denial of racism in our society is a step backward..\u00a0 And the hypocrisy of the Catholic church, its obsession with sexual behavior and its unwillingness to abandon its ludicrous garments and symbols of power (which have little to do with the ways of Jesus) are still around.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\" data-setdir=\"false\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\" data-setdir=\"false\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\" data-setdir=\"false\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\" data-setdir=\"false\">\n<p>I know you do not write for fame or fortune but to express the churnings which have always stirred within you.\u00a0 That they stir within others is obvious from your success.\u00a0 Keep sharing your gift, Caitlin.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\" data-setdir=\"false\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\" data-setdir=\"false\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\" data-setdir=\"false\">\n<p>P.S. I was studying at the U. of Muenster, Germany, when MLK and Bobby Kennedy were killed.\u00a0 Also when the Watts riots broke out.
