{"id":6711,"date":"2022-04-26T16:35:04","date_gmt":"2022-04-26T23:35:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.caitlinhicks.com\/wordpress\/?p=6711"},"modified":"2022-04-26T17:27:54","modified_gmt":"2022-04-27T00:27:54","slug":"my-mothers-story-the-history-of-women","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/caitlinhicks.com\/wordpress\/my-mothers-story-the-history-of-women\/","title":{"rendered":"My Mother&#8217;s Story: The history of women"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Introducing \u201cMy Mother\u2019s Story\u201d, a project founded by Vancouver actress Marilyn Norry, who began\u00a0it years ago with an invitation:<\/p>\n<p><em>Write the story of your mother\u2019s life \u2013 just the facts from beginning to end \u2013\u00a0in less than\u00a02,000 words, where you are just a footnote.\u00a0When you are finished, and when you are ready, read your story out loud to at least one person.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Gone Too Soon<\/em> features 20 stories by women and men around the world who were bereaved as children and adolescents by the loss of their mothers. As well as their mothers&#8217; life stories, they&#8217;ve written Author Reflections about the healing they found through &#8216;finding&#8217; their mothers again through their journey to tell their mother&#8217;s story.<\/p>\n<p>The fascination of this project, of this the book,\u00a0\u00a0is the experience each child goes through, looking at their mother as a separate, complete person unto herself.<\/p>\n<p>The book <i>My Mother&#8217;s Story: Gone Too Soon, <\/i>with a\u00a0Foreward by Marilyn Norry and a Preface\u00a0with Michelle Hohn, Editor and Contributing Author, was \u00a0released in March 2022. This is what we&#8217;re celebrating today with this podcast. <\/p>\n<p>The above photo of Hilda and Eric Hardie, Jenn Griffin&#8217;s parents. <\/p>\n<p>Here, in this podcast, I read the story of Doris, as told by her daughter, Colleen Winton. A tiny, tiny bit of editing was necessary with the final cut and including the wonderful sound design by Gordon Halloran. This is one to sit back and enjoy!
