Two days after her 24th birthday, on September 25, 1943, Marcelle Prudell married Private, First Class Carl Robert Swanson, who was 22. Son of Mrs. Meta Swanson of 1306 South 75th St, West Allis, Carl graduated from Pio Nono High School and attended Marquette University, where Marcelle also schooled. An employee of Allis Chalmers, Carl Robert Swanson entered the military service, September, 1942.
On November 28, 1944, Marcelle Prudell Swanson was appointed to the US Navy Reserve as an Assistant Paymaster with the rank of Ensign.
In early March of 1945, while in New York City as a WAVE, Marcelle received news that her husband had been killed in battle on January 8, 1945. As part of a twenty-one day assault by American and French forces, the German 19th army (the Colmar Pocket) had been ‘elminated as an effective force’ under the command of Lieut. Gen. Jacob L. Devers. Carl Robert Swanson had been a member of the 180th infantry, 45th division.
